Mathematics

The fifth grade mathematics program emphasizes the importance of using problem solving strategies to solve problems involving whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Students will be given practice in order to refine skills with multiplication, division, fractions, and geometry. Customary and metric measurement will be used to make comparisons and perform operations on measurements within a system. Students will not be making conversions between systems.
The students draw and discuss three dimesional geometric shapes.
Students work with their partner designing and forming a cube.
Working together, students create a three dimesional cube from paper.
A student proudly displays  his completed paper cube.
Technology is integrated into the mathematics curriculum daily, as students use the Math Trek program to review basic concepts.
Students construct a three dimensional paper cube, recognize the problems encountered and possible solutions.
Students use different strategies to solve morning math problems.
Using the strategy of drawing pictures to solve a math problem
Students are reviewing SOL questions.
Students use charts to learn the place value of decimals.
