In the fourth grade
language arts programs, students continue to develop their
abilities to communicate through speaking, listening,
reading, and writing. Language learning is integrated into
all areas of study. To encourage language development, the
fourth grade classroom environment offers students time,
choice, and opportunity for active involvement with
language. Mrs. Dixon demonstrates Best
Practices strategies to Mrs. Smith's
class. Students write in their writing
journals to generate ideas for stories. Miss Leeds models making
connections using a picture book. Students then use
Post-It Notes and try to make connections in their
own novels. In Word Study, students sort
their spelling words into open and closed sorts.
Students often work in pairs to try and guess the
open sort spelling pattern. |
