The language arts program
seeks to empower the students in the world of communication.
The focus is on developing skills that will enable the
student to communicate effectively in both written and
spoken language. Students use a National
Geographic article on the animals of Denali to
search for the most important facts and come to
consensus on their importance. Sixth graders practice
different strategies to help them when reading.
Making connections, asking questions, and
visualizing are all strategies we use. They use
these strategies when reading independently,
discussing books with friends, and writing
responses to what they have read.
