Primarily incorporating a
hands-on approach, the science program includes units on
mealworms, electricity, chemistry, and human body systems.
The proper use of the scientific method and experimentation
is stressed throughout the science curriculum. Trade books
and other reference materials give the students
opportunities to expand their knowledge of science content.
Resources such as Windows on Science laser disc programs and
computer software allow the students to learn concepts while
utilizing the latest in technology. Students write conclusions to
the "surface" experiment. Mrs. Pierce's class creates
roller coasters to demonstrate potential and
kinetic energy. Students make final adjustments
to their roller coaster. These students have the longest
roller coaster in the class. Sixth graders use what they
learn about electricity and magnetism to make
simple motors.
