SCIENCE

Primarily incorporating a hands-on approach, the science program includes units on mealworms, electricity, chemistry, and human body systems. The proper use of the scientific method and experimentation is stressed throughout the science curriculum. Trade books and other reference materials give the students opportunities to expand their knowledge of science content. Resources such as Windows on Science laser disc programs and computer software allow the students to learn concepts while utilizing the latest in technology.
Students conduct an experiment to see what type of surfaces mealworms prefer.
Students conduct another experiment to see if mealworms prefer a dark environment more than one with lots of light.

Students write conclusions to the "surface" experiment.

Students have fun creating mazes for their mealworms.

Mrs. Pierce's class creates roller coasters to demonstrate potential and kinetic energy.

Students make final adjustments to their roller coaster.

These students have the longest roller coaster in the class.

Sixth graders use what they learn about electricity and magnetism to make simple motors.

The students studied cohesion, adhesion, and surface tension for liquids.
