Technology Meet Mrs. Crook Fourth Grade Fifth Grade Sixth Grade Web Quests The computer technology program has flourished at Kings Glen in the past several years. Ten years ago there were thirty-five Apple IIGS computers in our school. Now none of those computers are still used. Instead, there are a variety of PC and Macintosh computers and a variety of peripheral equipment to enhance the productivity of those machines. During the 2004-2005 school year, the computer lab was converted to an all laptop PC lab. The lab contains 29 Dell D600 laptop computers along with a Smartboard interactive whiteboard and TV projection capability.All of the hardware and software used in our curriculum is directly related to the school's commitment to meet the county and state challenge to prepare our children for technology in the twenty-first century. In general, there are four computers in each general education classroom and two in every special education classroom. Each teacher is encouraged to introduce curriculum-related activities that build computer competency for each of the students. Planning and integrating technology into the curriculum is done by classroom teachers with the aid of the School Based Technology Specialist (SBTS). The SBTS models lessons while teachers observe and assist. The SBTS also assists the classroom teacher with completion of curriculum-related activities that the teacher has initiated in the regular classroom or in the computer lab. All of the lessons are designed to meet the State of Virginia Standards of Learning in Technology while addressing topics in the general curriculum. Some of the areas our children are expected to learn are word processing, database, spreadsheets, graphing, graphics, CD-ROM, proper keyboarding, proper use of the Internet, and telecommunications.
