In general, there are four computers in each general education classroom and two in every special education classroom. Each teacher is encouraged to introduce curriculum-related activities that build computer competency for each of the students. Planning and integrating technology into the curriculum is done by classroom teachers with the aid of the School Based Technology Specialist (SBTS). The SBTS models lessons while teachers observe and assist. The SBTS also assists the classroom teacher with completion of curriculum-related activities that the teacher has initiated in the regular classroom or in the computer lab. All of the lessons are designed to meet the State of Virginia Standards of Learning in Technology while addressing topics in the general curriculum. Some of the areas our children are expected to learn are word processing, database, spreadsheets, graphing, graphics, CD-ROM, proper keyboarding, proper use of the Internet, and telecommunications.
